Precipitated Calcium Carbonate

Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is made in a process called milk of lime process where direct carbonization of hydrated lime takes place. The process involves the removal of impurities i.e. the rocks or mineral deposits like heavy metals, feldspar & silicaceous minerals that are not calcium carbonate. Further the precipitation helps to form particles of required size that are much finer than that which could be acquired by simply crushing lime stones. Precipitated calcium carbonate is used as a filler or extender in chemical and associated industries like rubber, plastic, paper, pharmaceuticals, inks, food supplement, sealants and adhesive manufacturing industry. There are two Categories/Phases of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate i.e. Aragonitic Grade & Calcitic Grade

Aragonitic Grade

Aragonitic grade Calcium Carbonate have ortho Rhombi needle shaped particles so they have higher abrading ( i.e. cleaning) power than calcitic calcium carbonate of similar particle size. Due to this property aragonitic calcium carbonate are preferred in tooth paste formulation. The detail of Argonitic grades are here classified in three categories according to their bulk volume / bulk density.

Calcitic Grade

Calcitic grade of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate have rhombohedral Hexagonal Crystal shape particles and have larger surface area i.e. high absorbency than aragonitic grade. These grades are mainly used in PVC Compounding industries. There are two grades in this category.

Activated Calcium Carbonate

Activated Calcium Carbonate (ACC) is produced by coating the surface of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate. The coating material is generally a fatty acid i.e. steric acid and Titanate coupling agent to enhance physical properties such as disperssion, flow, gloss and high filler loading for better economic viability to end user.

Coated Ground Calcium Carbonate (Made in vietnaam)

Natural/ Ground Coated Ground Calcium Carbonate (Made in vietnaam) (GCC) is produced by coating the surface of uncoated GCC. This coating process is done with the help of pin mill and a steric acid injector. The surface coating treatment changes the alkalinity of uncoated GCC. The coated GCC is extensively used in PVC industries to make smooth surface, better flow, high filler loading. There are some variety of coated GCC in mean of purity & fineness.
